The crucial fumble in the 3rd quarter overshadows the UCF back's 129-yard night.

George O'Leary and Kevin Smith looked one another in the eye in the third quarter Tuesday night and said everything that needed to be said in a couple of silent seconds.

Smith, the UCF sophomore, had just fumbled on the Southern Miss 1-yard line, a gaffe that proved to be the turning point in the Golden Eagles' 19-14 victory. O'Leary, the Golden Knights coach, was unhappy with the play. But not at Smith, who returned from a one-game suspension to run for 129 yards against one of the toughest rushing defenses in Conference USA.
