Scoring early is key to UCF's victories

He doesn't usually like to harp on statistics, but one figure that UCF Coach George O'Leary saw recently jumped out at him.

"You look back as a coach, and we are 8-1 [in his UCF tenure] when we score first or are ahead in the first quarter," O'Leary said. "That's why it is so important to score early with our team, I think, from a confidence standpoint."

Seven of those wins came last season, with the only one from 2006 coming in the Golden Knights' season-opening victory against Villanova.
