Season has been hard for West and O'Leary

Tommy West doesn't need any sympathy from George O'Leary.

And George O'Leary doesn't need any sympathy from Tommy West.

West, the University of Memphis football coach, and O'Leary, the UCF leader, understand what one another is going through this fall. It's a combination of frustration, misery and disappointment.

West, after three straight bowl appearances, was expected to have enough talent returning -- the year after DeAngelo Williams -- to earn a fourth postseason bid. O'Leary, after winning the Conference USA East Division title last year, was projected to repeat, especially with an offense returning 1,000-yard rusher Kevin Smith, standout receiver Mike Walker and quarterback Steven Moffett.
