UCF will be down another defensive starter this week, Coach George O'Leary said Tuesday. Sophomore LB Cory Hogue is out indefinitely after sustaining a "ripped ligament" in his thumb Saturday against East Carolina.

Hogue started Saturday against the Pirates, his 11th consecutive start dating to last season, posting three tackles. For the season, Hogue and Joe Burnett are tied for second on the team in total tackles with 48. That total is tops among Knights linebackers.

Redshirt freshman Kyle Fowler is listed behind Hogue on the depth chart and is expected to start Saturday night in Memphis. While Fowler has received lots of playing time, it would be just his second start.

Hogue's injury is the second to a linebacker in as many weeks. Another starter, Jordan Richards, is out indefinitely after rupturing ligaments in his ankle against Houston on Oct. 28.
