Jaguars must consider Culpepper

Jacksonville, FL- Here is what people say about Byron Leftwich, current Jaguars starting quarterback for the 2007 season: Look at his track record. Look at the success he had before he was injured. Look at what he was able to do when he was healthy. This is why we should trust him to lead the Jaguars into the coming season.

It's a fine argument to make for Leftwich, a perfectly sensible defense for coach Jack Del Rio's decision to give the quarterback his old job back. It's also the reason why Leftwich might end up losing his old job before the season is out.

There is another quarterback out there now, another quarterback who was a star before injuries got in the way, too. Daunte Culpepper was a bigger star than Leftwich ever was - he nearly won the NFL's MVP award in 2004. Now, just like Leftwich, Culpepper is looking for someone to believe in his past and give him the chance to show he can do it again. Sam Borden: Savannah Morning News
