Samuel should set his sights on title run

Asante Samuel was hoping to parlay one big year into one huge contract.

After intercepting a total of six passes in his first three years with the Patriots, Samuel last year tied for the league lead during the regular season by picking off 10, including three against the NFC champion Bears, and then snagged two more in the playoffs, returning both for touchdowns — one against the Jets in the wild-card game, and a 39-yarder at Indianapolis in the AFC championship game.

In addition, the 5-foot-10 , 185-pound cornerback was New England’s leader in passes defensed, with 24, then batted away eight more in the playoffs. Jim Donaldson: Providence Journal
