Smith's powerful running pulls USM down in C-USA race

HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss came into Sunday night's Conference USA game with Central Florida knowing that Knights running back Kevin Smith was capable of putting a big hurt on the Golden Eagles.

Smith certainly did his part, but as it turned out, much of USM's grief turned out to be self-inflicted.

UCF converted two Golden Eagle turnovers into two touchdowns in the first half and never was headed as the Knights claimed a key East Division victory with a 34-17 victory before an announced 27,103 at Roberts Stadium.
