Gabriel takes heart in late-game surge

FOXBORO - For three quarters, Doug Gabriel was invisible in a stagnant Patriots passing game.

And because of that, plus the fact that he’s still largely restricted to playing in three- and four-receiver sets, quarterbackTom Brady had a message for his new teammate.

“We talked about it,” said Gabriel, “and he said, ‘Make sure you stay in the game. And make sure whenever your number’s called, we need you in there, so do what you do.’ ”
