It's gut-check time for Golden Knights

Not many people saw this coming.

After a remarkable turnaround season in 2005, expectations were high for UCF football in '06. But except for occasional flickers of fortune, the Golden Knights (2-4) have made little headway in reaching the next tier as a program.

Through the first six games, the defense resembles a playground with no gate, the offense has been spotty at best and the special teams have been an adventure -- and not in a good way.
