UCF Coach George O'Leary hinted at it all week and Saturday he finally made the change.
Following a mistake-laden performance against Pittsburgh, O'Leary benched starting senior QB Steven Moffett in favor of junior Kyle Israel. Israel made the second start of his career against the Owls, breaking a string of 21 consecutive starts by Moffett, who has 32 career starts.
O'Leary said afterward his plan before the game was to use both quarterbacks. But because Israel, who finished with 327 yards, three touchdown passes and an interception, was performing so well, O'Leary decided to stick with him.
"I thought Kyle played well," O'Leary said. ". . . I thought he made plays when he had to make plays."
