UCF’s first year in Conference USA featured the normal growing pains any school upgrading leagues would endure. The Golden Knights finished 7–7 in league play en route to an overall mark of 14–15. Not bad at all, and considering that UCF played Kentucky close in Rupp Arena and beat Houston and UTEP, the season went about as well as could be expected.

Now, Kirk Speraw expects even better results.

“The league is very deep and you cannot take a night off,” he says. “If we expect to win, we have to bring our ‘A’ game every night.”
