For several weeks, UCF's inability to stop opponents' big-play threats has been its biggest problem. In Saturday's 23-10 setback to East Carolina, however, it was the opponent's third-down barrage and not any one or handful of plays that had the most decisive effect on the outcome.

UCF's defense came into Saturday allowing 429.25 yards a game. While the defense allowed ECU just 305 total yards, the Pirates converted on a staggering 9-of-17 of their third-down attempts.
