There were moments Saturday when all the pain that has been UCF's 2006 season seemed ready to cease and like a little of the funk of a sad, dreary season was about to be washed away.
But when the final horn expired and the Golden Knights found themselves trudging off the field cloaked in another stinging result, this time in the form of a 23-10 loss to East Carolina, there weren't many new words left to describe the hurt.
In the locker room, players gave each other the kind of high-fives and embraces that are usually reserved for a season's end.
There are still three games left in the Knights' season, but with their postseason hopes now evaporated, it was clear afterward that pride might be the only thing left for them to play for following their fourth consecutive loss.
