TAMPA — Central Florida believes it has a great opportunity this season to take a big step in the growth of its program when it moves its games to a new on-campus stadium this season.
The Knights, who dropped "Golden" from their nickname, will begin play at Bright House Networks Stadium in September after having played home games at the Florida Citrus Bowl in downtown Orlando since the program's inception in 1979.
To UCF coach George O'Leary, moving to the stadium on campus, in east Orlando, is a critical step in the improvement of the football program he has led since 2004.
"It's the last piece of the puzzle," O'Leary said Saturday at the Florida Sports Writers Association media days event. "There's no more excuses 'why this?' or 'why that?' "
