HATTIESBURG — How good is running back Kevin Smith, the powerpack who makes the Central Florida offense go?
Good enough for coaches up and down the USM staff to compare him to one of the Golden Eagles' all-time best, Derrick Nix.
"Kevin Smith is a heck of a running back," USM coach Jeff Bower said. "He is going to get it about 30 times a game. He is a big, physical running back and reminds me a lot of Derrick Nix."
USM linebackers coach Dave Wommack had much the same reaction.
"I almost called (Tyrone Nix, former USM player and coach) because I thought, 'Man, is your brother playing down there at Central Florida,' " Wommack said. "We have to find a way to stop that running back, because he is really good."
