Speraw, Knights looking ahead

A new arena will help the burgeoning hoops program be attractive to top-level recruits.

In a few weeks, construction crews behind the old UCF Arena will begin to dig their fingers into the second phase of the renovation project that will temporarily displace Coach Kirk Speraw and the Knights basketball program for the next few months.

Speraw and his staff will be living out of boxes and depending on cellphones and laptops during the stretch while still conducting the day-to-day demands of their basketball team.

But for a crew fresh off the pivotal summer recruiting season that included a brutal two-month period and stretches at the national AAU tournaments in Las Vegas and here at Disney's Wide World of Sports, living on the go hasn't been a foreign concept.
