RALEIGH, N.C. - By the time UCF running back Kevin Smith had run to his right 10 yards, reached the 30 and slashed through the front seven of the N.C. State defense, Knights quarterback Kyle Israel knew.

So Israel, UCF's senior quarterback, turned toward the crowd here at Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday night and raised his arms, signaling a touchdown 70 yards before it would become official.

"And then I hoped Kevin made it," Israel said later with a broad smile.
