UCF spoils debut for O'Brien

RALEIGH - N.C. State tailback Andre Brown took a long, last look at the scoreboard at Carter-Finley Stadium as he walked off the field.

There was the score, in bright red lights: Central Florida 25, N.C. State 23.

It was Tom O'Brien's first game as the Wolfpack coach. A crowd of 57,283 turned out Saturday night, most of it in Wolfpack red, expecting a good beginning, seeking something to help wash away some of the misery of last year's 3-9 season that ended with seven straight losses.
But there it was in red: Central Florida 25, N.C. State 23.

"You've got to credit Central Florida because they're a good ballclub," Brown said. "But you have to be stunned by losing this game. You hate it.
