UCF coach: Smith deserves national acclaim

ORLANDO - University of Central Florida standout tailback Kevin Smith entered Saturday as the nation's leading rusher, and he helped his cause against Memphis by running for 124 yards and three touchdowns in a half of work.

So should Smith, a junior from Miami, be mentioned now among the favorites to the win the coveted Heisman Trophy?

Not yet, UCF coach George O'Leary said. But if Smith continues to pile up the 100-yard performances as he has in each of UCF's first three games this season, O'Leary said Smith would be worthy of some national acclaim.
