Central Florida's Smith is off and running in 2007

Kevin Smith says he's not a numbers guy. But the numbers the Central Florida junior tailback produces are nonetheless impressive.

Smith goes into UCF's game Saturday at fifth-ranked South Florida as the nation's rushing leader at 172 yards a game. His name appears on the Division I-A (Bowl Subdivision) rankings ahead of such acknowledged Heisman Trophy candidates as Michigan's Mike Hart and Arkansas' Darren McFadden.

"I think it's a great accomplishment for our offensive line, but we don't really pay it any mind," says Smith, 6-1, 211. "I'm not big on numbers. The numbers are going to come when your team's successful."
