After another victory put it in title contention, UCF celebrated like it expected to win.

As the clock ticked down in UCF's second big win in as many weeks Sunday night, senior quarterback Kyle Israel and tailback Kevin Smith stood quietly, helmets in hands, enjoying every second.

No panic. No worries. Just joy.

But while both were clearly excited about the Knights' 34-17 win over Southern Mississippi, which inched UCF back into the hunt for a possible Conference USA title-game appearance, there was also a new element that championship teams tend to have around November.

They celebrated like they expected it happen.

"It's what we came in [Hattiesburg] to do," Israel said. "We know that we can play good when we have the opportunity and as long as we play well . . . it's gonna turn out like this."
