UCF's Smith named semi-finalist for running back award
UCF junior tailback Kevin Smith is one of three players from Conference USA that were named semi-finalists today for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation's top college running back.
Smith, who is coming off a career-high 320-yard game at UAB and is ranked second in Division I-A in rushing (176.8 yard per game) and has a UCF-record 1,768 yards this season, is one of 10 total semi-finalists for the award.
He joins Tulane's Matt Forte and Houston's Anthony Aldridge from C-USA on the list. The other semifinalists are Jamaal Charles of Texas, Mike Hart of Michigan, Felix Jones of Arkansas, Darren McFadden of Arkansas, Rashard Mendenhall of Illinois, Ray Rice of Rutgers and Jonathan Stewart of Oregon.
