In a 2005-06 season filled with valuable lessons for the UCF Golden Knights, most of those lessons were positive.

UCF finished 14-15, but considering the fact that the Golden Knights made a considerable leap in competition level from the Atlantic Sun to Conference USA and finished fifth — including a 7-7 record in conference play — the season had to be considered a success.

"We learned that we have to play our best each and every night," said Kirk Speraw, who enters his 14th year as UCF's head coach. "The players in this league are more athletic and more gifted and we are playing against better opponents on a nightly basis. The league is very deep and you cannot take a night off. If we expect to win, we have to bring our 'A' game every night."
