Lyons played two seasons (2002-2003 and 2003-2004), in the NCAA Division I at Central Florida, where in his final season, he averaged 18.3 points, 2.8 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He played in the NBA Summer Leagues for the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic following the 2003-2004 season.

After searching the market for several weeks, Illescas has found a player who meets the technical specifications of Javier Juárez, who feels that Lyons is a player that is perfectly matched for the needs of the team. Said Juárez, "We are very happy with the recruitment of a player like Lyons since he exhibits the perfect qualities needed for our team to be successful.”
