UCF Coach George O'Leary isn't just worried about his team's X's and O's game plan this week against N.C. State. He's worried about their ears, too. During Wednesday's helmets-and-shorts workout, O'Leary turned up the volume on the offense, using speakers set up on the back of a golf cart to give the team a taste of what it will experience Saturday at the Wolfpack's rowdy Carter-Finley Stadium.
Sounds of six different jet engines mixed together were blasted behind the huddle during team drills, forcing players to rely on hand signals from the sideline. O'Leary said it is an exercise he normally pulls out when his team is playing on the road. "It's loud there [at Carter-Finley], but any time we play away I want to bring the noise in," he said. "They are just used to paying attention to the verbals and not having their head down when the play's being called. Same with the visuals, they have to understand to really watch for those."
