Leavitt is good; crazy, too
The offbeat USF coach head-butts players and runs with them, but the quirkiness has paid off.
USF defensive back Mike Jenkins woke up startled one winter break morning.
He thought he could sleep in at his home in Bradenton after a fall of intense practices and early-morning workouts his sophomore year. Instead he awoke at 8 a.m. to USF Coach Jim Leavitt jumping onto his bed like a madman.
"He was recruiting in the area and he came in and jumped in my bed was like, 'Get up, go lift weights!' " Jenkins said, laughing. "I thought, 'Oh god, I'm never going to get away from him.' "
