Opponents rush to beat Blazers

The defensive work on the UAB football practice field centers around trying to stop the run.

Does this sound familiar?

No Division I-A team has defended the run worse than UAB thus far this season. UAB's defense is partly to blame for the lack of success. But the opposition also has plenty to do with the Blazers allowing 248.7 yards per game.

"We have played against some of the better running backs around the nation this whole year," said UAB cornerback Brandon Carlisle.

The numbers back up that statement. UAB has played against nine running backs currently listed in the top 100 in yards rushing per game, including top-ranked Matt Forte of Tulane. Six of the nine teams that UAB has faced are ranked in the top 50 in rushing offense.
