Speraw hopes for continued success in new UCF arena

It was a rare and casual Kirk.

That's the best way to describe UCF Coach Kirk Speraw as he walked out onto the floor of the Knights' new 10,000-seat arena Saturday to coach his first exhibition game of the new season.

Speraw, usually only seen on the court clad in perfect suits and a Windsor-knotted tie, donned a more laid-back polo shirt and slacks.

It was fitting that at least for his team's first outing of the year, Speraw took one opportunity to grab a little extra comfort. After all, for the first time in his 15-year tenure, Speraw appears to enter a season with just basketball on his mind.

A new multi-year contract in hand and the full support of the administration behind him, Speraw begins the 2007-08 season hoping to plant seeds that will take the Knights' program to the next level.
