ORLANDO, Fla. — Five hundred years ago, according to legend, Spanish explorer Ponce de León arrived here in search of the Fountain of Youth. Centuries later, a new breed of traveler came to Florida, also seeking a place that might add years to a life.
Today, the state boasts more retirees per capita than any other.
To become young or to grow old: That has been the end of the rainbow for generations of sojourners to the Sunshine State.
When George O'Leary arrived in 2004, to take over the fledgling Division I-A football program at Central Florida, he was in search of neither. He came to find a new life altogether.
